| Here below is a list of current prices. All prices are based on current costs of materials and the labor involved, as well as invisible costs such as shop rent and utilities, and as such are subject to change. None of these prices are set in stone, but you can get a good approximation of the cost involved for a frame, fork, stem, racks, and the rest from the list below. We’ll work together to decide what exactly you want, and based on this we’ll give you a solid estimate.
As of Summer, 2008, the wait time for a frame is about 3.5 years. Contact us to find out more specifics.

racks
So you’ve decided to get a rack or two with your bicycle, but you’re not certain what exactly you want. You could check out some of the possibilities in the rack gallery. When you’re ready to order a bicycle we will fully discuss what you want your bicycle to do, and we’ll figure out exactly what sort of rack will best be of service to you. The field is wide open here. Once we’ve decided what purpose your rack will serve, then it’s up to us to make it functional, stable, and really beautiful. You can trust us. We have a lot of experience with racks.
further rack commentary...
One of the things Ahearne Cycles is known for is our custom racks. We’ve built racks for all sorts of uses, of all styles and sizes, for all kinds of bicycles. Rack projects are some of the most complicated we’ve had. They are some of the most frustrating, and at the same time most fun and fulfilling. But a part of the difficulty is that they’re also some of the most time consuming.
As the business of building bicycles has grown, the time remaining for racks has become less and less. We’re now at the point that it’s just not possible to satisfy all the orders for bicycles and racks that we receive, so we’ve had to change our rack policy. We’re now only able to build custom racks for those people who order bicycles from us. It’s always best to build a fully unified bicycle, where the bicycle was built to hold racks and the racks are built to fit on that particular bicycle. This makes for the cleanest, most stable mixture of function and aesthetic.
We’re working on some rack projects that may allow us to make more racks available in the future, but for the time being, we’re going to keep our focus on making the best quality bicycles and racks available, and to build them as a functional unit. Check back for future updates on our rack status.
frame finish
The cost of each frame finish is unique, and is determined case by case. For most bicycles, a single color is covered in the base frame price. We’ll get into more detail about the cost to finish your bicycle as we know more about what you’d like.
Ahearne Cycles is proud to be using Spectrum Powder Works for all our frame finishing. They are the best in their field, and it really shows in the quality of their work. They can do some amazing things with powder, including single and multi-color jobs, and crisp, clean edges on lug masking. Check out their website to see some of what they offer.

We are big proponents of powder coating bicycles for several reasons. Mainly, because it’s more durable than liquid paint, and it’s environmentally sound -- there are no toxic fumes involved, and there’s no waste to dispose of; whatever doesn’t attach itself to the bicycle frame can be swept up and re-used.
The only thing in favor of a liquid paint job is that it looks wet even when dry, it can be applied very thin, and the color options are nearly infinite. We live in Portland, Oregon where the rain is prevalent enough to keep our bikes looking wet most of the year, even with a powder finish. Thin paint is fragile. And besides, choosing between an infinite color selection with liquid paint, and the environmentally friendly powder coat, we choose to be responsible. These are, after all, bicycles.
