So you’ve been looking through the pictures, doing some research, and there’s an idea you have about what you want for your next bicycle. You may not be sure of the exact details, but you are certain that you want a bicycle, and you’re ready to order. Here below is an outline of what you can expect.

1. Contact us. We’ll talk about some ideas you want to see in your next bike. This is where you tell us about the dream you envision. You can get an idea about the pricing from the price page on the website. We’ll let you know the specifics on the wait time.
2. We’ll need a $750 deposit to secure your place in line. For bicycles using Columbus XCR or Reynolds 953 tubing the deposit will be $1000, and a progress payment will be required prior to ordering the tubing. We accept checks or money orders, and can do secure credit card transactions through Pay Pal. With Pay Pal there is a transaction fee of about 3% within the USA, and about 4% for international payments.
3. Once we’ve received the deposit we’ll discuss more specifically what you want your bicycle to do. This is where we’ll refine your dream. We’ll figure out design features, what racks you might want, specifics about lugs or fillet brazing, etc.
4. Also, at this time we’ll decide the procedure for getting your measurements so we can build the right bicycle for your body. If you’re able to, we’ll set up an appointment to have you fitted here in Portland. If you can’t come to Portland to be fitted, and you don’t know your sizing, we can help you find a bike shop near you that will size you for a bicycle. We can discuss with them the details of the measurements.
5. As the time approaches, we’ll have a discussion with you about the parts. We have a lot of experience with what works well together, and we’d be happy to make suggestions, or if you want to leave it all up to us, we can do that, too. After figuring out what sort of bicycle you want, and what you want it to do, we’ll put together a complete parts list. We’ll send you the list with the total cost for your approval. Feel free at this point to change anything you want.
6. After we’ve dialed in your parts list, and received your approval, we’ll quote you a final price for parts. Before ordering we’ll need to receive full payment for the parts. Please keep in mind that whether we order the parts, or you are supplying them, we must have ALL the parts in the shop when building the bicycle. We want everything to work together perfectly, and there’s no better way to make this happen then to build everything to spec.
7. Once we’ve gotten all your fit information we’ll generate a drawing based on everything we’ve discussed. We’ll send this to you for your appraisal.
8. Once we’ve gotten the parts ordered, the drawing approved, and all the other details nailed down, it’ll be time to wait. If this hasn’t already been discussed, we’ll need to begin thinking about the color of your bicycle.
9. When the time arrives, your bicycle will be built and then sent to the powder coater. You are more than welcome to come visit the shop at anytime during the build process. We will keep you posted on the progress, and let you know as soon as your bicycle returns from paint. During this time we’ll send you the final invoice. Once the invoice is paid in full, we’ll build your bicycle up with the parts. We’ll take some pictures and then, when necessary, we’ll safely package the bicycle and ship it to you.
10. Now you get to enjoy riding your new Ahearne.
